Many years ago my husband surprised me for my 40th birthday and took me to a cooking school in Tuscany for a week long hands on course in Italian cooking. Inspired by “The Tuscan Chef” Valter Roman, my husband and I now enjoy creating delicious meals fresh from our garden.
My Food & Wine Pairings page shares meals we’ve created and paired with wines we have here in our home. I’d also like to introduce Chad & Leigh Anne, who have created the website “Winetonomy”. Besides being good friends, Chad and Leigh Ann have further amplified our passion for food and wine. Many of the wines that we share with you can be found on their website. We will let you know where we find the wines we recommend to pair with our dishes. One of the best things about Winetonomy is you can find delightful wines that are both high end and great values.
Halibut with Caramelized Mushrooms, brown rice with garden chives
Wine Pairing: 2018 Tablas Creek, Esprit Blanc de Tablas
This is a Roussanne / Grenache Blanc blend with citrus and lemon curd flavors on the palate and ocean minerality.
Purchased at Tablas Creek Winery in 2021.
____
Baked Chicken with Porcini Mushroom Sauce, Garden herbs & vegetables, and brown rice & noodles.
Wine Pairing: 2010 Chateau Fonplegade Saint-Emilion Grand Cru
An old world Merlot / Cab Franc Bordeaux blend, with mild French barnyard, earth, dark fruits & graphite paired well with the Porcini Mushroom Sauce.
Purchased on the Winetonomy website.
________
Homemade Enchilada’s with a Kick
Wine Pairing: 2017 Thacher El Alvaro, a Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre blend
A delightful Rhone blend from the California Central Coast. This wine is somewhat fruit forward with flavors of mixed berries, plum, spice and light smoke. The very slight residual sugar & juicy mouth feel makes this an excellent match with the spicy Enchilada filling and homemade sauce.
Purchased at Thacher Winery 2021
