This was our first time using “The Big Green Egg” and I have to say it was quite the experience. The perfect event to share with neighbors and friends. When it comes to making pizza, there are a variety of pizza crust recipes out there. Pizza crust recipes range from Traditional pizza crust to Porter Beer Pizza Crust made with Porter, Stout or Dark Ale beer. You can find this recipe on http://exceptionalcomfort.com or choose a more traditional pizza crust made with All purpose or Caputo Semolina flour http://sugarspunrun.com. Either way pizza crust is easy to make and pizza on the big green egg is a fun way to make pizza.
The big green egg itself is designed so well when it comes to getting the coals started. The “Eggnighter”, pictured center here (looks like a large curing iron) uses hot air to start the coals. The draw from the big green egg is so good that within minutes all the coals are lit and the interior temp is already up to 200-300 deg. I’m happy to report that the Eggniter was safe and easy to use, and best of all no lighter fluid needed. Just fill the bowl with charcoal, use the Eggniter and your on your way!
We made 2 pizzas on the big green egg. The first one was olive and cheese (pictured here) for the kids next door. The second for the adults was olives, mushrooms, onions, (sausage mix of fennel, spicy & mild) and roasted garlic, all topped off with mozzarella & parmesan cheese.
Make the crust. Plan for at least 2 hours rising time, punch down and roll out on a cutting board.
Layer on your favorite ingredients!! Transfer to pre-heated pizza stone.
Cook in the big green egg at 450 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
And Enjoy!!!
